The Wickway Community Centre
was set up as a Registered Charity in 1989. The local community
campaigned hard to gain funding for the current purpose-built
building, which was completed in 1997. The Centre provides Social,
Recreational, and Educational Opportunities for the Community in
Peckham Ward. The key objectives of the centre are to improve the
quality of life of local residents through:
-
Meeting the needs of all
sections of the community, Young People, Women, Single Parents,
Unemployed People, and Senior Citizens. Providing flexible space
as a resource for the community.
There are vibrant new
communities from Eastern Europe, Vietnam, Kosovo, Africa, who are
settling into
Peckham Ward. The Community is now
becoming more diverse than ever before.
Therefore, we at Wickway
have a duty to reach out and embrace these new communities, for the
Centre’s sustainability and survival. An important part of this
process is to have quarterly Community Consultation Meetings where
members from the local community can meet the Management Committee,
put forward their ideas, Community issues, and Social Factors that
impact upon them. |
